To install vanessa_socket
-------------------------

tar zxf vanessa_socket-0.0.13.tar.gz
cd vanessa_socket-0.0.13
./configure [--prefix=/usr]
make
make install

To build RPMS
-------------

rpmbuild -ta vanessa_socket-0.0.13.tar.gz

or

cd vanessa_socket-0.0.13
./configure --prefix=/usr
make distcheck
rpmbuild -ta vanessa_socket-0.0.13.tar.gz

N.B: If you have an older version of rpm you may need to use

     options should be the same.

To Build Debian Packages
------------------------

dpkg-buildpackage [-uc] [-us]

To install on Solaris 8
-----------------------

You may need to set some envirnoment variables to aid the build process.
The following worked for me using a bourne shell. Make apropriate
adjustments if you are using a C shell.

CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include/"
export CPPFLAGS
LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib/"
export LDFLAGS

cd vanessa_socket-0.0.13
./configure [--prefix=/usr]
make
make install

To install on FreeBSD 4.2-RELEASE
---------------------------------

You may need to set some envirnoment variables to aid the build process.
The following worked for me using a bourne shell. Make apropriate
adjustments if you are using a C shell.

CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include/"
export CPPFLAGS
LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib/"
export LDFLAGS

The Makefiles that are generated may not work with make so use
gmake instead.

cd vanessa_socket-0.0.13
./configure [--prefix=/usr]
gmake
gmake install
